Norfolk's First
When Elliot Juren opened Fair Grounds in 2001, independent coffee shops in Norfolk were rare. We became the city's first — and we're still here, still independent, still doing it the right way.

Our story
Fair Grounds has been a cornerstone of Norfolk's Ghent neighborhood since the day we opened. Founded by Elliot Juren, we've spent over two decades serving fair-trade, organic coffee in a two-story historic home where the seating is quirky, the regulars are loyal, and everyone is welcome. We're not a chain. We're not trying to be. We're just the best coffee shop in the neighborhood where we grew up.

Our two-story house in historic Ghent isn't a designed aesthetic — it's just where we live. Mismatched chairs, natural light, and the smell of fresh coffee. Come stay a while.
Ghent is one of America's great walkable neighborhoods — historic, artsy, and full of people who give a damn. That's always been our crowd, and we're proud to be part of it.
Community & Events
Fair Grounds has always been a gathering place. Our two-story space hosts open mic nights that have given local musicians, poets, and storytellers a stage for over twenty years. Pull up a chair, order something warm, and stay.

We've served organic coffee since day one — because what goes into your cup matters, and it always has.
Plant-based milk options, clearly labeled vegan food, and zero judgment. Great coffee is for everyone.
